Le Village District

Le Village Shopping District in Cornwall OntarioLe Village is a "main street" commercial district in Cornwall that runs along Montreal Road from Marlborough Street East to St. Lawrence Drive. It offers a diverse mix of professional offices, restaurants, retail stores and residential buildings.

The area is in the midst of a revitalization as new businesses set up shop. It is also an area with immediate access to the St. Lawrence River, attracting new residents.

Financial Assistance

Cornwall's Heart of the City program has a number of financial assistance programs to help landowners undertake property improvements, with a special focus on aesthetic improvements, and the upgrading and renovation of commercial properties and ancillary residential units.

Residential Growth

Le Village is in the middle of a number of residential projects that are bringing more people to the central core of Cornwall. King's Landing is a 40-unit apartment building built on the eastern edge of Le Village, and the Cotton Mill Lofts has also created 54 condominiums in the heart of the district, with dozens more being constructed over the next two years.

Collegiate Connections

St. Lawrence College is located at the east end of Le Village. With surging enrollment, the College has just completed a $14 million renovation project and is a vibrant place of learning and community activities.

Theatre and Conference Crowds

Aultsville Theatre is also located at the east end of Le Village. This 700 seat theatre attracts thousands of people to the area to attend dozens of shows throughout the year. Similarly, the NAV CENTRE Conference Facility is also nearby and holds an number of major events each year.

Waterfront Trail

Cornwall's 40km network of recreational paths travels the entire length of Le Village, offering great views of the St. Lawrence River.

Heritage Area

Le Village has strong connections to Cornwall's textile mill past and Francophone heritage. The early nucleus of the francophone community was Nativity Roman Catholic Church on Montreal Road which was built during 1887-92. It was built to serve the many French Canadians attracted to the city by its booming textile industry and continues to serve today.
