Michaels Opens Store in Cornwall
Over 200 people lined up early on a November Saturday morning for the official opening of the new Michaels store in Cornwall.
“We’ve been working hard to bring Cornwall a new Michaels and the community seems eager for us to open,” said Store Manager Andree Richard. “We look forward to introducing customers to the new store design and helping them find everything they need for their next creative project.”
The new arts and crafts superstore is located at the corner of Brookdale and Tollgate, in the new commercial plaza developed by Villarboit Development. The plaza is also home to Winners, PetSmart and SportChek. Winners opened earlier this month, with SportChek and PetSmart openings slated over the next two weeks.
"Everybody has been very positive and welcoming," said Monica Noonan Desforges, District Manager for Michaels. "We have heard that local residents want more shopping choices in Cornwall, and we're happy to oblige."
The new store features an open, uncluttered design with wider aisles, warm colors and brighter lighting. Key departments, such as jewelry, scrapbooking and kids are expanded and re-organized for easy shopping.
- The scrapbooking and paper crafts department features more than 3,000 styles of stickers and embellishments organized by themes like birthday, holiday, sports and travel.
- The expanded jewelry department has more than 6,000 different styles of open stock, pre-strung, and packaged beads including 1,900 bead strands, Swarovski crystals, specialty findings and tools for everyone from beginner to expert beader.
- The kids’ department provides parents with a total solution to inspire their children's imagination and creativity, featuring an expanded assortment of kids’ art supplies such as crayons, markers, paint, craft sticks, feathers, glitter and much more for school and home projects.
- The fine art supply area includes an expanded canvas selection and fine art papers with more shapes and larger sizes, more than 230 brushes and a broad selection of acrylic, oil and watercolor paints. Brushes and other products are arranged by skill level from student to professional to help any artist buy with confidence.
- Custom framing comes out from behind the counter with an open-style work area that encourages a hands-on design experience. Customers work with Michaels expert framers to lay out their artwork with mats and mouldings, which are color coded by price range to help customers select the right design for their budgets.
The new store is approximately 17,357 square feet and will employ more than 40 people.
Michaels offers a variety of classes and workshops every month on a wide range of topics, including scapbooking, jewellery making, art painting and more.
