Elizabeth Manley to Speak at Power of Women Conference
Olympic medalist and Canadian sports icon Elizabeth Manley will be coming to Cornwall on February 23, 2012 to deliver the keynote address at the 6th Power of Women Conference and Tradeshow, organized by the Women Entrepreneurs of Cornwall and Area.
This one-day conference will focus on the needs of women in business and offers an evening of inspiration, personal development and networking.
Ms. Manley's presentation will centre on overcoming life’s unexpected challenges and finding motivation to live a full and balanced life. A chance for Q & A with Ms. Manley will be offered at the end of the session.
“I remember looking up to Elizabeth Manley as a role model when I was a young girl,” said Josée Lemieux-Bailey, member of the Board of Directors of the Women Entrepreneurs of Cornwall and Area. “Her story of courage, determination and accomplishment is sure to inspire Canadian women of all ages.”
In addition to the keynote address, the conference will feature The Women in Business Trade Show. Products, services, opportunities and resources will be offered from a number of local exhibitors. The Women in Business Trade Show will run from 5:30 pm. to 6:45 pm. and 8:15 pm. to 9:00 pm.
Event sponsors include the Eastern Ontario Training Board and City of Cornwall Economic Development.
“Women entrepreneurs are a strong force in our local economy,” said Candy Pollard, Business Consultant at the Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre. “Events like the Power of Women Conference provide a valuable forum for new or prospective business owners to network.”
The conference will take place on Thursday, February 23 at the Best Western Inn and Conference Centre with the trade show beginning at 5:30 pm. and the keynote speech beginning at 6:45 pm. The conference will last until 9 pm.
Tickets can be purchased online or at the door for $25.
Women are particularly encouraged to attend, however all are welcome.

About Elizabeth Manley
Elizabeth Manley is the 1988 Olympic Silver Medalist and Olympic Freestyle Champion, and the winner of more than 50 national and international medals in her long and successful career. Boasting more than 30 years experience in both amateur and professional figure skating, she was the first Canadian female to successfully land a triple-double combination jump in competition, and she has participated in two Olympic Games, six World Championships, and has won three National Titles at the Canadian Championships. Women Entrepreneurs of Cornwall and Area - or "WE" - was formed in 1998 by a small group of women who knew that women business owners needed to connect with one another. Within a half a year, the group had grown from 12 to 80 members and now numbers over 90. WE's mandate is to provide a forum in which all women in Cornwall and the surrounding Area may benefit.
