Gilles Latour and Max KeepingThe Max Keeping Foundation has expanded to Cornwall with a goal of increasing access to sports and recreation opportunities for local youth in low-income families.

Mayor Bob Kilger joined with Mr. Keeping and other community leaders at Latour Financial Group offices to announce the launch of the "Cornwall Edition" of the Foundation, and in the process unveil three sizeable donations totalling $65,000.

"Every child should have the opportunity to play sports - whatever their passion is," said Max Keeping. "Healthy activity fuels the spirit and leads to brighter futures."

"Mr. Keeping has been a great friend to Cornwall over the years, and we're thrilled that he has agreed to help us once more through his Foundation," said Gilles Latour of Latour Financial Group. "At Latour, we were looking for a way to give back to the community and this presented a great opportunity. The great thing about this initiative is that the money that is raised in Cornwall will stay in Cornwall."

The City of Cornwall's Parks & Recreation Department currently administers accessibility programs for vulnerable citizens in the Cornwall area, and it will administer the Play to the Max program in Cornwall. Additional information on the eligibility requirements and application process for these programs can be found on the Recreation section of the City website, www.Cornwall.ca.

"This new partnership will allow even more families to participate in local sports programs and encourage them to lead healthy lifestyles," said Christine Lefebvre, Division Manager of Parks & Recreation.

"This announcement represents an investment in our future," said Mayor Bob Kilger. "Sports programs provide a great environment to learn about things like team work and respect. Thanks to this new partnership, additional youths in our community will get to enjoy the many benefits that come with playing organized sports."

To help kick-start the initiative, the Cornwall Police Association has pledged to contribute the proceeds of its annual golf tournament to the program for the next three years. The CPA presented a $40,000 cheque to the Foundation. The Latour Financial Group also committed $20,000 and the Children's Aid Society of SDG committed $5,000.
