Mayor Kilger appointed to MPAC Board of Directors
Cornwall ON - Mayor Bob Kilger has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) for a three-year term.
The appointment was recently made by Ontario Finance Minister Dwight Duncan. Mayor Kilger will serve as one of 8 municipal representatives on the 15-member Board of Directors.
"It's another way for the City of Cornwall to be involved in matters that are critical to municipalities, including provincial budget matters and property assessment values," said Mayor Kilger.
About Mayor Bob Kilger
Bob Kilger was re-elected Mayor of the City of Cornwall in 2006, and re-elected for a second term in November 2010. Mr. Kilger has a long history of public and community service, having served Cornwall residents as their Member of Parliament from 1988 to 2004. He is currently active on a number of local committees, in addition to serving on the boards of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), Eastern Ontario Mayors' Action Committee (EOMC) and Ontario Small Urban Municipalities (OSUM).
About the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC)
MPAC is a not-for-profit, public sector Corporation which is responsible for property assessment matters in Ontario. MPAC administers a uniform, province-wide property assessment system based on current value assessment in accordance with the provisions of the Assessment Act. It provides municipalities with a range of services, including the preparation of annual assessment rolls used to calculate property taxes. Municipal enumerations are also conducted by MPAC in order to prepare a Preliminary List of Electors for each municipality and school board during an election year.
The MPAC Board of Directors is made up of 8 municipal representatives, 5 members representing property taxpayers and 2 provincial representatives. The Finance Minister appoints all Board members.
