The City of Cornwall will receive $9.2 million from both the Federal and Provincial governments to help pay for the construction a new multi-use sports complex.

The funding comes from the Building Canada Fund.

The $30-million arena project will consist of three NHL-sized ice pads and an indoor fieldhouse and tennis court and will replace aging facilities currently in use.

Construction of the facility is expected to start in November 2009, with a targeted completion date of March 2011.

Community fundraising and corporate sponsorship efforts are approaching the $600,000 mark in an effort to put up an additional $2 million for the arena project.
