Shawn and Ellery Maloney, Mike Herniak and Mayor Bob KilgerCornwall Ontario - A trusted and respected part of the community since 1956, Miller Hughes Ford Lincoln has written a new chapter in the revitalization of Cornwall by capping off a $1.2 million renovation project that took a year to complete.

“When we were considering whether we would move to a new location or renovate the existing dealership, we listened to what our customers had to say,” said Shawn Maloney, dealer principle at Miller Hughes Ford Lincoln. “The response was overwhelmingly in favour for keeping the dealership where it is – in the heart of the city. It was obvious that the convenience and ease of doing business with us close to where our customers live and work is important to them.”

Construction began in June 2011 on the new Ford Millennium Facility program, which enhances the dealership with the addition of a Service Drive Thru, premium lounge and Lincoln showroom.

“The program results in a long-term reduction in individual dealership’s carbon footprint”, says Mike Herniak, eastern market general manager for Ford of Canada. “By participating in the Millennium program, Miller Hughes Ford Lincoln is demonstrating its dedication to superior customer service and to maintaining green business practices.”

Mr. Herniak also presented Shawn Maloney with Ford Canada's Golden Shovel Award, recognizing Miller Hughes Ford Lincoln for providing a "leading-edge facility" in support of long term customer satisfaction and owner loyalty.

Miller Hughes received approximately $300,000 in financial assistance from the City's Heart of the City and Brownfield Community Improvement Programs to offset the estimated $1.2 million construction costs. The majority of the funds were earmarked to deal with the remediation of some minor environmental issues with the site.  Miller-Hughes Ford is one of the 150-plus projects that have received support through Cornwall's Community Improvement programs, which are designed to encourage and assist property owners to improve their properties, and by extension, improve their local communities.  Since 2006, approximately $3.1 million in assistance has helped to generate over $13 million in private sector investment in the City.

"I would like to commend Shawn Maloney and his team for their ongoing commitment to the people of Cornwall," said Mayor Bob Kilger. "This significant reinvestment not only creates a fantastic new home for Miller Hughes Ford, but it is also a concrete vote of confidence in Downtown Cornwall."

As part of the construction, Miller Hughes removed the old body shop building and separate Used Car centre to make way for more customer parking and clean sightlines.  This greatly beautified the look of the downtown core".

“The incentives available from our Municipality were a major factor in keeping our new facility where it has been for the last 56 years,” said Ellery Maloney, former dealership principle.  “Plus with the help of these incentives, we were able to totally clean up any environmental concerns.”

Ellery and Shawn Maloney were joined at the grand re-opening ceremony by customers, family members, and former employees, amongst other dignitaries. Both gentlemen were quick to recognize the efforts of their employees throughout the company's long history.

“Miller Hughes has always given back to the communities it serves,” added Shawn Maloney. “We believe our success has stemmed from not only having great products to sell, but having and keeping great employees.  When your people are happy then they offer great service and we end up with satisfied customers.  It’s a great way to run a business.”
