St-Hubert Restaurant - Cornwall OntarioCornwall Ontario - One of Cornwall’s most popular restaurants has relaunched itself with a whole new look.

St-Hubert Restaurant is now open and welcoming back customers following a major expansion and upgrade to the Brookdale Avenue restaurant. The work, totaling over $1 million, included the addition of a new 50-seat dining area, new offices and a new take-out area in addition to renovations to the existing dining room and bar. Upgrades were also completed on the exterior of the restaurant, which is owned and operated by Karen McMillan and Lloyd Lalonde.

The restaurant’s dining room and bar was closed for 11 days in order to complete the renovations, and the changes are already creating a big impression with the restaurant staff.

“Our staff are just blown away by the changes,” said Mrs. McMillan. “They are all anxious to see the customer’s reactions.”

Mrs. McMillan said the decision to expand the restaurant was originally driven by the need to expand the office area, but it quickly grew into something much bigger. With the new dining area, the restaurant can now seat 273 people, in addition to the drive through, delivery and take-out services.

The expansion has resulted in the creation of a few new jobs at the restaurant, which currently has a staff of 95.

"We have a great staff who have been with us a very long time," said Debbie Cooper, General Manager. "The added capacity means that we can take reservations, and already we are getting calls for special group functions and tour buses."

One of the features of the new restaurant is an expanded parking area.

Mrs. McMillan was grateful for the community’s ongoing support during the work, which took several months to complete.

“Our customers have been really patient,” she said. “Even through all of the changes, they’ve continued to support us. Hopefully they will enjoy the brand new look.”

Mayor Bob Kilger said the work at St-Hubert represents a significant vote of confidence in Cornwall.

“It’s great to see a well-established business like St-Hubert re-investing in our community,” said Mayor Kilger. “Karen and Lloyd are great community leaders who not only run a popular and successful business but also support many local charitable organizations.”

St-Hubert has been delighting hungry patrons from its Brookdale Avenue location for 30 years now. The Cornwall restaurant is one of the busiest franchises in the St-Hubert family, which operates primarily in Quebec. The only Ontario communities with a St-Hubert restaurant are Cornwall and Ottawa, and express locations have recently opened in Kingston and Rockland.

"Cornwall's location along Highway 401 means that we get a lot of people from Montreal and Toronto looking for that famous St-Hubert dining experience," said Ms.Cooper.

For the past 5 years, the Cornwall restaurant has consistently placed in the top 5 in the St-Hubert corporate Excellence Program, and in 2010 won the coveted Golden Rooster Award, ranking the restaurant 1st among all of the franchise’s locations.

Earlier this year, the restaurant was awarded the Business of the Year Award at the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards. The Awards recognize outstanding achievements by Cornwall area businesses and individuals in the fields of commerce, community work and/or innovation.

In addition to running a successful business, the St-Hubert team has also reinvested in the community by offering support to a number of organizations and causes including the Cornwall Community Hospital, Children’s Treatment Centre and the United Way. It has a long standing relationship with the local MS Society and its annual Golf Day.
