Riverdale Terrace - CornwallCornwall Ontario - One of the most unique residential projects in Cornwall’s history is wrapping up its development phase with an open house this Sunday October 21st.

Riverdale Terrace is a beautiful lodge-style retirement residence overlooking the St. Lawrence River on the banks of the Cornwall Canal.  The architectural elements of the building are second-to-none and feature a mix of wood beam and stone on the exterior, and luxury finishes on the interior.

“There is nothing like this in Cornwall,” says builder/owner JC Godard. “We paid special attention to every detail, adding design flourishes where you would not necessarily expect them.”

Riverdale Terrace offers 95 units ranging from studio to one-bedroom apartments. Each apartment has either a balcony or terrace and each floor features common rooms overlooking the St. Lawrence River.  The building has a large dining room on the main floor, and a large rock pond with waterfall in the courtyard.

One of the most striking aspects of Riverdale Terrace is the recreation floor which features a movie theatre, bowling alley, indoor mini-putt course, pool room, fitness room and more.  Residents will be able to take advantage of housekeeping services, on-site banking and postal services, chapel, hair/nail salon among others. Mr. Godard also plans to bring in live music every month.

“Our commitment was to create a home atmosphere that people will want to share with their family and friends,” says Mr. Godard. “It is our hope that our staff will become our tenants’ extended family."

Riverdale Terrace officially opens on November 1st when 24 tenants are expected to move in. Executive Director Suzi Godard and her staff are currently working with other interested potential tenants, and there remain some exceptional units that are immediately available.

“You really need to see this facility for yourself,” says Ms. Godard. “We’re really excited at the lifestyle options we have created for people.”

The Open House takes place this Sunday October 21st from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Guide tours can be arranged at any time upon appointment. Riverdale Terrace is located in the historic Riverdale neighbourhood of Cornwall, at 1200 Second Street West.

This project received approximately $917,000 in financial assistance from the City's Brownfield Community Improvement Program to offset the estimated $12 million in construction costs. The majority of the funds were earmarked to deal with the remediation of some minor environmental issues with the site.  Riverdale Terrace is one of the 150-plus projects that have received support through Cornwall's Community Improvement programs, which are designed to encourage and assist property owners to improve their properties, and by extension, improve their local communities. Since 2005, 24 projects have been funded leveraging investment of over $34 million.
