Cornwall Waterfront Home Wins Outstanding Design
Cornwall Ontario - A stunning new home overlooking the scenic St. Lawrence River has been named the “Most Outstanding Custom Home” by Greater Ottawa Home Builders Association. The home was designed by architect Christopher Simmonds in Ottawa and built by Ray-Jans Construction from Cornwall.
“This project is just another example of the visionary approach Chris takes to each of his projects,” said Tim Lawlor of the Ottawa Construction News who covered the awards gala.”His designs are a true blend of his clients vision combined with the best of GREEN and sustainable design standards.”
From the landscaped forecourt of this home, one steps through a portal and discovers a magical world animated by the drifting panorama of sky reflected on the mighty St. Lawrence River. Rebuilding on the footprint of the original home allowed the new home an intimate proximity to the water’s edge.
The kitchen is the heart of this home and serves the family or a whole crowd just as easily. An array of functions radiate from it. To the east is a two-storey sitting area, a great place to watch the sunrise. To the south is the dining room which can be lengthened, almost indefinitely into the adjacent spaces when large crowds are served. Further south is a deck which overlooks the river while sheltering a hot tub below. To the west is the living/TV room with fireplace which is located so that you still feel like part of the action back in the kitchen. Further west are the screened porch and outdoor entertaining spaces around the pool. From here you can watch the sunset or stay up to party under the stars. A wrap-around porch interconnects the generous rounded deck with the pool and patio.
The kitchen is a collection of sculptural elements including walnut veneered cabinetry, glossy white lacquered serving hutch and seating counter. A pizza oven, walk-in pantry and glass fronted wine cellar further complement the kitchen’s amenities.
The upstairs bedroom level accommodates a sumptuous ensuite with stand alone tub, dark tiled walls and iridescent shower tiles. The curved glass shower walls respond to the elegant sculptural form of the freestanding soaker tub.
“We were very pleased to work with the owner and architect as the general contractor on this project,” says Gary Jans of Ray-Jans Construction. “The riverbank setting is perfectly reflecting in the design and décor, and the results speak for themselves.”
The home is located on the outskirts of Cornwall in the Township of South Glengarry.
“There are a number of beautiful homes along the waterfront throughout Cornwall and SDG,” said Joyce Gravelle, Economic Development Officer for Stormont Dundas and Glengarry. “The entire regionoffers some great opportunities for building your dream home.”
