Dr. Nat Shah Named Humanitarian of the Year
Cornwall Ontario - Dr. Nat Shah was awarded the Dr. Garth Taylor Humanitarian Award at the recent 25th Annual Business Excellence Awards, hosted by the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce.
The award is presented to a person who has committed to assisting others by volunteering time, effort, expertise or resources. While the award is not always presented each year, the award was initially created to recognize individuals throughout our region who are making valuable contributions to those who need it the most in countries around the world.
"The winner of this year’s Humanitarian Award is an individual who truly represents the qualities and commitment that Dr. Taylor symbolized," said Kevin Hargreaves, Chamber President.
Dr. Shah may not be a Cornwall native, but since making the City his home many years ago, he had caring and positive contact with hundreds of local citizens.
Dr. Shah is a highly respected Cornwall physician and founding Director of Child Haven International, an agency that since 1985 has operated homes for destitute children in India, Bangladesh, Tibet and Nepal.
His philanthropic and altruistic efforts has also been recognized by others:
- Governor General’s medal for outstanding community contribution
- Named to the Order of Ontario for his work as a Physician in regional and international health care

- Named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation
- Awarded Life Member: Ontario Medical Association
- Named Family Physician of the Year by the Ontario College of Family Physicians
