Knor Plast President Wins Award
Eric Lang, President of Cornwall's Knor Plast Inc., has been named one of the Ottawa Business Journal's "Forty Under 40" business executives.
Mr. Lang runs Knor Plast, a plastics recycling company that was recently listed as the 10th fastest growing company by Profit Magazine. Mr. Lang has other business interests in Cornwall - he is currently renovating a building on Pitt Street in the heart of the city's downtown business district.
"As always, it was a fascinating and arduous process to arrive at this year's recipients," saysOBJ publisher Michael Curran, who chairs the judging panel.
One of the reasons that Mr. Lang was selected for the award is that his businesses interests have seen 100-per-cent growth rate for five consecutive years.
About Knor Plast
The Knor Plast family of companies was started as an industrial plastics recycling brokerage in 2000. Recognizing that virtually all plastic waste was destined for landfill sites, Eric and Tamara Lang started looking for opportunities to capture this essentially "clean" waste and find secondary uses for it.
As recycling efforts became more generally accepted and competitive pressure drove the need for less expensive materials, the company began to investigate ways to better serve its clients and to recapture even more of the previously "wasted" plastic. Volumes grew and Mr. Lang recognized an opportunity of further treating some of the plastic waste.
In 2004 Canadian Resin Recovery (CRR) was formed and today processes more than 250,000 kilos of plastic waste a week. Using large shredding and granulating equipment CRR converts the solid plastic waste into more marketable and easy to ship material. CRR can treat virtually any industrial plastic waste and allow a plastics manufacturer or molding company to re-use their previously discarded waste. Using traditional extruding equipment in very innovative ways has helped the company truly "recycle" discarded materials into "like new" compounds that are being used in the place of new resins, at reduced costs.
The company now operates out of three sites in Cornwall Ontario and a fourth production facility in Cobourg Ontario.
